French bread
This is a quick and easy bread recipe. And it's yummy! I often use about half whole wheat flour and the other half white flour.
This always seems especially good on a cold day with a hot bowl of soup.
2 1/2 c warm water
2 Tbsp yeast
3 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1/3 c oil
6-7 c flour
2 Tbsp yeast
3 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp salt
1/3 c oil
6-7 c flour
Mix all ingredients together. Add enough flour to make a firm, not sticky, dough. Knead for 5 minutes. Place in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let rise until double. Divide dough into 3 sections. Grease a cookie sheet. Form each portion of dough into a loaf shape and place it on the cookie sheet. Slash each loaf 3 or 4 times with a sharp knife. Cover and let it rise until doubled. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes!
